Hi, I'm Michelle Carter, and I am thrilled to share my journey with you. As the proud owner of MCB Nurse Consultant, my passion is helping directors and nurses in long-term care navigate the overwhelming challenges they face. Over the years, my mission has been to transform exhaustion and frustration into professional, clinical, and personal accomplishments through leveraging personality science and nurturing inner leadership.
My story began in the early '90s when, as a single mother, I embarked on a nursing career with no clear path ahead. Starting as a CNA purely as a means to provide for my children, I found myself surrounded by inspirations and discouragements alike. It was the encouragement of supportive peers that drove me to advance to an LPN and eventually an RN. The real game-changer, however, was stepping into a director of nursing role with little guidance but a deep thirst to learn and lead better.
Throughout my 17-plus years journey, which will soon mark its 18th year in 2025, I have faced many trials—from battling poor workplace cultures to surviving crisis management scenarios. I’ve learned that true leadership is born out of these challenges, whether it be muddling through the chaos of a bad survey or striving for improvement amidst adversity. These experiences molded me not just into an efficient leader, but a compassionate and understanding one.
In my career, I've also strived for balance, not only in my professional role but in life. While managing multiple roles—raising children as a single parent, advancing my education, and running bustling nursing teams—I discovered the importance of mentorship, continuous growth, and above all, community support. Each experience added a quilt of resilience, perseverance, and commitment to my story.
A pivotal moment was being introduced to personality science through the BANK methodology. This framework enriched my perspective on human interaction, particularly how understanding diverse personalities can propel effective leadership and strengthen team dynamics. This revelation propelled me into coaching and consulting , a natural progression to my aspiration of guiding other directors and nurses towards professional fulfillment and personal wellbeing.
At MCB Nurse Consultant, we equip nursing leaders with the tools to forge strong connections within their teams and achieve remarkable outcomes. We emphasize the beauty in having a support system and provide a safe space for nursing leaders to express vulnerabilities and triumphs alike without judgment.
Our Leadership Roundtable cohort , set to begin in January, is crafted for those ready to change the narrative of their careers and communities. It's an opportunity to explore innovative methods, like personality science, to foster better leadership and change the culture within healthcare settings.
For those interested in making a difference, I invite you to join our community. Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe to our YouTube channel, MCB Nurse Consultant, to stay engaged with our journey towards excellence.
